Addressing the Climate Crisis: A Moral Obligation, a Political Challenge, and an Economic Opportunity

October 30, 2019 @ 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Scientists tell us that we are on track to a different Earth than any of us remember from our childhood — a planet hazardous to coastal cities, with greatly reduced biodiversity, posing security and political and economic risks — because humans have significantly altered the chemistry of the air and seas by using fossil fuels. Many people say that we have a moral obligation to leave the world no worse a place than we found it, and that our actions should not cause injury to others, so we should reduce emissions and reverse the environmental changes we’ve wrought. Politics as usual has not yet delivered solutions commensurate with the climate challenge. And yet, an enormous transition is clearly underway in how we use and generate energy — promising a cleaner, safer, more comfortable and productive future if we move fast enough. These phenomena are opening up opportunities for new careers, for new businesses, and for civic engagement.

Come to Rhode Island College (RIC) the afternoon of October 30 for an opportunity to hear from people on the front lines of these issues, to talk with them and others with similar interests, and to learn how you can participate in the greatest challenge of our age.

Join our panelists for an in-depth discussion of the greatest challenge of our age and voice your ideas and concerns.
